Srinagar-Leh highway was re-opened for traffic on April 28. It remained closed for five months due to heavy snowfall. The highway connects the Kashmir valley with the Ladakh region.
Lieutenant General K.J.S. Dhillon, Commander of the Srinagar-headquartered 15 Corps of the Army, flagged off the re-opening of the highway on Sunday.
Senior civil and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials were also present in the inaugural function.
Last year, the highway was thrown open on April 6. This year there was a delay in reopening of the highway due to accumulation of snow.
After it was formally declared open, vehicles, including those of the security forces and trucks carrying essential supplies to Ladakh were allowed to move on the highway.
Another adventure begins for those who choose to travel by Srinagar-Leh highway road.
